This is one of those posts that the plots has more to say than any words that I add here. The figure shows the impact of Covid-19 on the employment trends in Australia based on the type of employment: whether the employee had access to paid leave entitlements or not (casual workers).
As the figure shows, most of the decline in employment numbers during Covid-19 has happened among casual workers and the recovery has also been much slower for them. During the peak of restrictions, more than 20% of casual workers lost their job and despite the recovery acorss a large part of the economy, a quarter of those jobs lost did not recover in November .
Just to remind you, as I wrote here before, sectors that are more likely to hire casual workers in Australia are also hit harder by this pandemic.
